With independent distortion and compression in every band, you choose where the character goes and how hard it hits.
Put the Distortion Where You Want It
MBD4 splits your audio into four frequency bands: LOW, LOW MID, HIGH MID and HIGH.
Use the three adjustable crossover points to define each region, then give every band its own treatment. Leave the low band free of distortion while driving the mids, add grit to percussion or combine several distortion characters across the spectrum.
Each band includes its own distortion selection, intensity, distortion mix and output controls. Solo individual bands to hear the detail, then bring everything together.

From gentle saturation to aggressive sound design, MBD4 offers a broad palette of distortion characters.
Explore valve-style warmth, germanium fuzz, tape-inspired saturation, clipping, wavefolding and digital textures. Push further with models such as Wave Fold, Digital XOR and Feedback Scream, or combine contrasting characters across the four bands.
Use a subtle amount to bring out harmonics, build a rough parallel layer or make distortion the main event.
Choose What Comes First: Distortion or Compression
Processing order changes how a sound responds. MBD4 lets you choose PRE or POST compression routing independently in every band.
PRE: Distortion Before Compression
Feed the distorted signal into the compressor so it reacts to the harmonics and level changes created by the distortion.
POST: Distortion After Compression
Shape the dynamics first, then send the compressed signal into your chosen distortion model.
Each band includes threshold, ratio, attack, release, knee and makeup gain controls. Combine different routing choices across the spectrum to explore different responses within the same sound.
