The History of the Roland TB-303
After its launch in the early 80s, the Roland TB-303 was somewhat of a commercial failure. While it was designed to emulate the sound of a real bassist with a real bass guitar, in reality, its sonic qualities didn’t resemble that of a bass guitar.
After its discontinuation in 1984, creative producers managed to get hold of cheap TB-303s on the secondhand market. They began experimenting with the filter envelope and resonance, resulting in these new otherworldly squelching sounds that had never been heard before.
As far as legendary synths go, the Roland TB-303 is truly an accidental hero in the world of synth culture. Without it, the Acid Movement would have never existed, and its many celebrated sub-genres wouldn’t have been born.
Today, we can thank the TB-303 for the birth of Acid House, as well as its part in the evolution of Hard House, Techno and Rave music to name a few. Audio Blast Abx-3 proudly represents these exciting styles of electronic music, and offers creative new ways to build upon these genres with a modern music production workflow.
